What certification bodies charge per audit day

Accredited bodies charge about €925-2,300 per audit day in the public data, before surcharges. The German TÜV Saar list says €1,590. UK accredited bodies charge about £1,250-1,500, large ones more. A low rate is fine; too few days is the real risk.

What a day includes

  • The TÜV Saar day covers the audit, its preparation and its report. Admin and the certification decision cost €95 per hour on top.
  • SQS bills hours, CHF 265 each, plus CHF 15-30 per hour for complex schemes such as information security.
  • Travel time is not in the day on the German and Swiss lists. See the fees.

Why rates differ

  • Country and auditor pay. Swiss and UK rates sit higher than Spanish ones.
  • Brand. A UK consultant reports a large body at £1,759 per day, above the £1,250 typical rate, "for the name on the certificate".
  • Scarcity. Published 2026 guides report day rates about 20% higher than in 2025.
  • Accreditation. UK bodies without accreditation charge about £800-1,000 per day.

The days decide more than the rate

Example: 40 people, 2 quotes

Quote A: 4 days at €990 = €3,960. Quote C: 9.5 days at €1,350 = €12,825. Quote A has the lower rate and the lower price. But for 40 people the floor is 5.5 days. Quote A sits under it, so its certificate is easier to question. Quote C pays for a full audit.
